Taking the first step to seek therapy is a brave and significant move toward understanding yourself better and addressing the challenges in your life.

Are you feeling overwhelmed by recent events, not coping, or struggling with relationship difficulties? Perhaps you are experiencing loneliness, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, or a sense of being lost, or stuck. Maybe you're just tired of simply treading water? If so, therapy can provide the support and understanding to help you move forward.

Reaching out to a therapist may feel daunting, but it can open the door to a more fulfilling life and a deeper connection with yourself and in your relationships. Elements of the therapy journey will be hard work, for example it can often be diffcult to put into words what is troubling you. But can also be hugely rewarding, offering the chance to reflect, grow, and make permanent and meaningful changes to your life.

ABOUT

About me

I am a London-based psychotherapist for adults. I arrived at this profession later in life, having worked mostly in book publishing and the disability/health support sector. My modality is psychodynamic with a highly relational approach. I also work in a humanistic, person-centred way.

I'm a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by their Code of Ethics. I have 6 years experience working with adults of all ages, including young adults and the elderly. I've helped people from a wide range of cultural, social, and ethnic backgrounds address issues such as trauma, depression, anxiety, attachment difficulties, self-esteem concerns, anger and grief. I work sensitively with diversity and am pro LGBTQIA+ rights, with an awareness of these concerns. I see clients through my private practice, at locations in Lewisham and Greenwich. I also spend some of myweek supporting those seeking therapy from disadvantaged communities, pro bono, via a London charity.

Before my therapy training, my health work involved supporting parents, and families, raising neurodiverse children. I now provide therapeutic support to these groups, as part of a broader caseload. I also see clients who are  autistic themselves (or otherwise neurodivergent), helping them feel understood, and exploring together how to better align their unique needs with their sometimes baffling environments.  I'm aware that whilst  some challenges can stem from neurodiversity, these clients can also face difficulties like anyone else, such as struggles linked to relationships, adverse childhood experiences, or feeling safe and supported in the present. Likewise, I have a particular interest in working with women who experience maternal/perinatal mental health issues. Supporting clients through relationship challenges, including those experiencing coercive or controlling dynamics, is likewise an important part of my practice.

MY APPROACH

I offer a comfortable and confidential space where we can explore whatever issues arise at your own pace, adjusting the therapy to meet your own needs. I see counselling as a collaborative process. Together we can identify unhelpful behaviour and thought patterns, which can then open up the possibility of alternatives. And then I can support you in achieving the solutions you came to therapy seeking. This usually involves uncovering the influences shaping your life challenges, so you can understand yourself better, clarify what is going on and move towards a more settled place within yourself.

We would begin by exploring the situation you're in at present  and now your challenges affect you relationships and choices. This may later involve tracing potentially unhelpful patterns of thinking or relating that could be rooted in earlier childhood experiences. Or it may may focus primarily on helping you navigate present difficulties and coming to terms with the reality of your life, depending on what feels most useful to you. In the process, rather than directly offering advice, I'll work to help by empowering you to trust your feelings, and evolve decisions that are right for you.

Whether the work is long or short term, my therapy room  is where you'll be encouraged to reflect deeply and gain practical knowledge that can lead to meaningful, lasting change. In my experience,  like a stone thrown into a pond creates ripples outwards, the impact of therapy can extend far beyond the therapy chair, with new and awareness continuing to surface over time, enriching your life long after our work has ended.
